Interview with Antti from Negative

Interview with Antti from Negative – May 10th, 2008

~ For those of you that have read “Finnish Music You should Check Out” knows that Negative is a Finnish band.

Muses: The new single “Won’t Let Go” has your fans excited and seems to be spreading on through out Finland, online and myspace. Many of the fans have said it is a new sound with the old essence. How do you feel Karma Killer will present itself to your fans?

Antti: It’s true that the sound is little bit heavier and rougher, and you can hear lot of elements from “S&D” songs, I think. It is a damn good album, and also “easier” to accept and like to, than for example “Anorectic” So there is not that fucking much elements on every song, That is because it is our first album so far, where is only one guitar. Larry played every guitar parts himself, so of course that is also one reason. In a good way and in a bad way.

Muses: When will the next single be released?

Antti: We haven’t decided that yet. maybe on summertime…

Muses: Recently there has been a line up change, adding a great new addition Gary from Technicolor! How has it been working with Gary?

Antti: so far we have done one gig with “the new kid” in Berlin, and I think it went very well. He was so nervous before the show that now when it’s done; I think it’s getting even better :)

Muses: You just spent a weekend in Sweden to record a new video for your new single “Won’t Let Go” … What is the concept behind the video and is there any circus animals?

Antti: Only animals you can see on the video is Larry, Jonne, Snack, Jay, and I. Heh heh.. it’s just basic “band is playing” video.

Muses: Antti keeps a really cool studio diary, is there a possibility that in the future you might do a video diary from the road?

Antti: Actually that is great idea!! Maybe I will on the next tour. Thank’s for a good idea!!

Muses: There is finally an international street and online team are you guys pretty excited about negativeinternational.com?

Antti: oh, I didn’t even know that. Well, now I am. :)

Muses: With the work of the street and online teams, are you hoping to get a chance to tour other places in Europe and eventually the US?

Antti: OF COURSE! For me touring is something, what it is all about. And like I have said many times, we would like to tour and play on everywhere! Around the planet, around the whole fucking universe.

Muses: When do you think it might be possible for those in the US to get merchandise, ever think about setting up a store on the website to sell it worldwide?

Antti: Don’t we have that? Shit. I have to talk to our manager.

Muses: How do you guys feel about people tattooing your band logo on them?

Antti: Well, I think it’s one of the coolest thing to do, if you are a hardcore fan. And I really respect that. I know what I’m talking about, ’cause I’m very interested of tattoos, and I have been a huge Metallica H.C fan for years ( I have more than 50 records of them, singles, bootlegs, live records, articles that I have collected myself on my “metallica-book”, 14 different t-shirts, all the videos they ever released and more) and I was 12 years old when I decided, that I will take a Metallica-tattoo. But my mom didn’t gave me a permission, so I took it when I was 21, and my mom couldn’t deny it anymore.

Muses: Antti, do you still have your turtles?

Antti: One turtle yeah, called “Wihtori” I have to go and give some food to that now.

Muses: Each of you have tattoos, are any of them sentimental to you and do you have a favorite tattoo artist?

Antti: Yeah, every one of my tattoos have a special meaning to me. If we meet some day, and you still want to know about those meanings, then I will tell you. Best tattoo store is “Igor’s tattoos” here in Finland. They have done all my tattoos.

Muses: If you had to choose between Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” and Salvador Dali’s “Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory” (the one with the melting clocks) which one would you want to live in?

Antti: Sorry, I don’t know anything about those.

Muses: At a party, which one of you would be wearing a lampshade on their head, which would be in the corner sleeping and which would have their dick in the mash potatoes?

Antti: Snack would be definitely the guy wearing something weird on his head, and I would probably have my dick on mash potatoes. Before I would past out on the corner, hahahaaaa!!

Muses: If you had to date a mythical creature, what mythical creature would you date?

Antti: Brooke Logan (from Bold and the Beautiful) and Taylor Hayes (from Bold and the Beautiful) and of course on the same time, the way that they wouldn’t knew about it.

Muses: Back in Shakespeare times, would you [Negative], the Muses [us] and Shakespeare all hang out and how? That is per say if we all lived back then.

Antti: I don’t know anything about Shakespeare. Ask Larry.
